Overview
The Rwenzori Mountains — the Mountains of the Moon — offer one of Africa's most spectacular trekking experiences. This multi-day circuit takes you through tropical rainforest, bamboo zones, alpine meadows, and glaciated peaks to summit Margherita Peak at 5,109m, Africa's third highest point. A UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its unique Afro-alpine vegetation, including giant lobelias and groundsels.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Nyakalengija to Nyabitaba
Begin your journey through montane forest, crossing rivers and spotting primates.
Day 2: Nyabitaba to John Matte
Trek through bamboo forests into the heather zone with spectacular peak views.
Day 3: John Matte to Bujuku
Enter the Afro-alpine zone with giant groundsels and lobelias around Bujuku Lake.
Day 4: Acclimatisation Day
Flex day for acclimatisation with optional short hikes around camp.
Day 5: Summit Attempt — Margherita Peak
Early morning push to the summit via Elena Glacier (weather permitting).
Day 6: Descent via Kitandara
Return through stunning valleys and pristine lakes to lower altitudes.
Day 7: Return to Nyakalengija
Final descent through the forest back to the trailhead.
